Sector: Processing of leather, manufacture of shoes and other articles of leather (C15)
 

The sector for processing of leather, manufacture of shoes and other articles of leather covers about 0.7% of industrial production in the country and contributes about 1.0% of value added in industry.

The level of wages in the sector is one of the lowest. The average monthly wage is estimated at about 320 BGN and employs 15 thousand people (2.9% of employees in manufacturing industry).

The index of industrial production deteriorated by 0.6 percentage points, while the turnover in the sector in 2010 improved by 13.8 points. In the sector has been an increase in producer prices (9.4 percentage points compared to 2009).

The production consists of leather, luggage, handbags, saddlery, harness, shoes and more. The sector implements by over 1000 companies, 70% of which are concentrated in the territory of South Central and South Western regions. Among them can be identified such as Vasil Muletarov BM CO, Piernic Group, Evrostayl, Flavia, Bostayl, Spring, BI I BI Bulgaria, Trimona, Delphi prim, Bravo, Mercury P & P and others.

The revival of production in the sector affected the dynamics of exports, which in 2010 grew by 30.1%. Sector participation in foreign trade is 1.8% of total exports and 1.4% of total imports of the country.
