Sector: Manufacture of wood and products of wood and cork, except furniture manufacture of articles of straw and plaiting materials (C16)

The sector to produce timber covers about 1.5% of industrial production in the country and also creates about 1.5% of value added in industry.

The level of wages in the sector is one of the lowest. The average monthly wage is estimated at 480 BGN and provides employment of 17.5 thousand people (3.5% of employees in manufacturing industry).

The index of industrial production and turnover of this sector in 2010 was improved by 12.6 and 7.1 percentage points. However, the sector is one of the few in the industry in which could be observed a fall in producer prices (-5.6 percentage points compared to 2009).

The production process consists of plywood, wood panels, assembled parquet floors, windows, wooden packaging and more. The sector implements of about 1230 companies, 40% of which are located in South Central and South Western regions. Among the companies involved in timber harvesting can be distinguished DLS Borovo SF, DLS Tunja SF, DLS Alabak SF, DLS Kotel SF, Factory Mediket, and between those engaged in processing of timber - Lessoplast, Rodopi, Kronospan BG, Wood VT, Technowood.

The revival of production in the sector affected the dynamics of exports, which in 2010 grew by 36.5%. Sector participation in foreign trade amounted to about 1.3% of total exports and just under 1% of total imports.

Staff providing in the sector is a result from the operation of a university, 46 schools and 6 elementary schools.
