Sector: Manufacture of food products (C10)
 

The sector for food production covers about 15.6% of industrial production in the country and contributes about 10.7% of value added in industry.

The level of wages in the sector is one of the lowest. The average monthly wage is estimated at about 500 BGN and provides employment of 79.6 thousand people (15.9% of employees in manufacturing industry).

The index of industrial production and turnover of this sector in 2010 was improved by 4.9 and 50.5 points. In the sector has been an increase in producer prices (0.9 percentage points compared to 2009).

The production consists of meat and meat products, fish, fruits and vegetables, dairy products, bakery products etc. The sector is performed by about 5500 companies nearly half of them are located in South Central and South Western regions. Among companies in the sector can be distinguished such as Nestle Bulgaria, Kraft Foods Bulgaria, Dill Tour Plovdiv, Bella Bulgaria, Chipita Bulgaria, Pilko, Confectionery Varna, Meat Lovech and others.

The revival of production in the sector affected the dynamics of exports, which in 2010 grew by 31.1%. Sector participation in foreign trade is essential - 8.5% of total exports and 9.1% of total imports of the country.

Staff providing the sector is a result from the operation of 1 university and 99 vocational schools.
